Superyacht Hulls

We all know that when a yacht’s paint approaches the end of its service life, the vessel must either be repainted or perform some kind of restorative work to extend the life of the paint.

LuxWrap has completed many hull and superstructure wrap projects in the 40m+ range, and at this size we’ve found that crew, management and owners are generally considering wrapping for the same reasons:

The main alternative to wrapping would be to polish and/or ceramic coat the vessel, but each of these options has its own challenges. (Polishing degrades the paint, and ceramic coating can only be removed with sanding.)

One major advantage to yacht wrapping is the speed with which the work can be completed. The entire process can be performed in the water from a mixture of floating rafts, mobile scaffolds and cherry pickers, with minimal downtime.

A typical 40-80 meter yacht hull wrap will take us 10-20 days to complete, depending on various factors such as the hull shape and tonnage.

Considering this, we have seen a clear shift towards large yachts making the decision to wrap.

Yacht Superstructures

When it comes to yacht superstructures, it is normal for paint to dull over time, and therefore superstructure wrapping has become a lot more common.

Superstructures can be wrapped in a fraction of the time and for a fraction of the cost of painting the same area.

It is clear that whilst wrapping has matured, there are very few companies with actual real-world experience executing large scale projects on a regular basis.
